Cross Docking and Transloading Services | Long Beach Transload Facility

Cross-dock and transload

Cross-docking and transloading, ten miles from the port

Move freight out of ocean containers and onto domestic trailers without paying for a second drayage move, a storage yard across town, or a container sitting on per diem.

One operation from the terminal gate to the outbound trailer

Hight pulls the container, brings it to our own secure facility, and handles the transload or cross-dock on site. Because the drayage carrier and the cross dock facility are the same company, there is no handoff to coordinate and no second party to chase when a terminal appointment slips.

Cross-docking or transloading?

The terms get used interchangeably. They solve different problems, and which one you need usually depends on what happens to the freight next.

Cross-docking

Freight comes off the inbound trailer or container and goes straight onto an outbound one, with little or no storage in between. Cross docking services suit freight that is already sorted for its destination and needs to keep moving.

  • Minimal dwell, minimal handling
  • Cuts storage cost out of the lane
  • Good for time-sensitive and retail-compliance freight

Transloading

Cargo is unloaded from the ocean container and reloaded into domestic trailers or containers, often consolidating or splitting shipments. Transloading services let you move three 40ft ocean containers into two 53ft domestic trailers and stop paying to haul air.

  • Consolidate or split shipments
  • Return the ocean container fast and stop per diem
  • Fewer, fuller trailers on the inland leg

The facility

Our transload facility sits on 6 acres in Long Beach, ten miles from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. It is fenced, gated and guarded, with cameras, lighting and controlled access, so high-value freight can dwell without becoming a security problem.

Dock access handles ocean containers and over-the-road trailers in the same controlled operation. On-site reefer plugs and diesel gensets support temperature-controlled freight through the transfer, and there is yard room to stage containers rather than rush them back under demurrage pressure.

Why transload at the port instead of inland

Stop per diem soonerThe ocean container goes back to the terminal the same day instead of travelling inland and back.
Pay for freight, not airA 53ft domestic trailer carries substantially more than a 40ft ocean container. Fewer trailers cover the same volume.
One accountable partyHight owns the drayage, the chassis and the dock. No coordination between three vendors when something slips.
Shorter exposureFreight spends less time in transit and less time in an unsecured yard.
